P(all)et Mondrian: This started off as an alternative homage and investigation into Mondrians theory of composition, design and harmony. I have long since wanted to create a 3-dimensional version of Mondrians work - not only to test and challenge his theories but also from a wider interest in the position and effectiveness of painting, as opposed to other mediums. This version was relatively easy, cheap and quick to make compared to my original idea of using traditional canvas with coloured acrylic/perspex. Found materials, particularly wooden pallets have been used regularly by artists at Southall Studios and so this choice had a site-specific element. The wood has a 'natural' feel to it whilst the coloured glossy paint appears plastic-like.  For an expansion of this investigation I created another work that has a variety of configurations and hence the title Composition variable.
